Mediation

Your alternative to litigation: less cost, more control, better outcomes

The separation and divorce process can be emotionally and financially damaging. I specialize in mediating for couples who want to separate or divorce while avoiding a stressful, costly, and often lengthy court process.

I help couples who wish to mediate all aspects of their divorce, as well as those who need mediation for specific issues or decisions. During our sessions, I facilitate open and honest communication to help you reach a mutually beneficial agreement. My role is to create a safe, respectful space where both of you are heard and supported — a space where you can take control of the decisions that shape your post-divorce future.

  • The cost of mediation will vary depending on the issues that you need to resolve. In most cases, mediation is significantly more cost-effective than litigation.

  • The duration of mediation can vary significantly depending on the complexity of the issues that you need to resolve. Sessions are usually scheduled a week or two apart. The average mediation can take between 6-12 hours, which is much faster than litigation which can take years.

  • Yes, mediation can help you modify custody or support arrangements. It provides a flexible and cost-effective way to revisit and negotiate changes that work for both parties, without going to court.

  • Even if it's just one issue, I can help you and your spouse work through it, offer some strategies for understanding each other’s perspectives, or help brainstorm potential compromises.

  • There are many benefits to mediation!

    1.    Faster and more cost-effective than going to court

    2.    Offers more flexible scheduling compared to court proceedings

    3.    Confidential

    4.    You remain in control and can generate creative and flexible solutions tailored to your unique needs, circumstances, and goals

    5.    Less stressful than litigation – no going before a judge or dealing with combative legal tactics

    6.    Mediation has a high success rate

  • When you decide to separate or divorce, there are key matters you will need to resolve. These include:

    • Division of assets and debts

    • Child custody and parenting arrangements

    • Child support

    • Spousal support (alimony)

    • Other legal or financial concerns

What needs to be discussed in mediation will depend on your unique situation. You may have already resolved some issues and just need help with others.

As your mediator, I will guide you through resolving these matters outside the courtroom, helping you explore options that prioritize the well-being of your entire family. In mediation, you maintain control over the process—there are no winners or losers, just mutually satisfactory solutions.

  • Initial Meeting: At our first meeting I will explain the mediation process, set ground rules, and identify the issues that need to be addressed. Depending on the issues, I will ask you to start to gather all the necessary documentation and information.

Discussion and Negotiation: In our follow-up sessions, we will dive into the issues you need to resolve. I will facilitate the conversation, ask key questions, and help guide you toward mutually beneficial solutions.

Agreement: Once you reach an agreement, I will document it in a Memorandum of Understanding. This Memorandum of Understanding can then be taken to your attorney to create a legally binding Settlement Agreement, which serves as the foundation for an uncontested divorce.

  • As a mediator, I don't represent one party over the other. I act as an unbiased third party, facilitating open communication and guiding you both through the negotiation process to reach mutually beneficial solutions.

  • You are welcome to seek legal advice at any time during the mediation process. While I am an attorney, I can only provide general legal information as your mediator. Once you reach an agreement and I have drafted your Memorandum of Understanding, an attorney will need to draft the Settlement Agreement. This becomes a legally binding contract once signed.

  • Yes, you will still need to go to Court to have your divorce finalized. I offer packages to support my clients with all their filing needs.

  • I am based in Westchester, New York, and all sessions are held virtually for your convenience and privacy. This allows clients to participate from anywhere in New York State for mediation services, and from anywhere in the United States for divorce coaching.

Virtual sessions make the process more flexible and comfortable — no travel, no courtrooms, and no added stress. You can join from your home or office, and I will guide you step-by-step through the process just as effectively as in person.
